ELNet allows only provisioned users and devices to connect. ELNet uses a tunnel type connection which utilizes UDP protocol for data transfer and TLS for authentication.

- TLS V1.2 as minimal version for authentication.
- TLS‐ECDHE‐ECDSA‐WITH‐AES‐128‐GCM‐SHA256 or TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 as TLS cipher suite.
- Encrypted and authenticated with 2048‐bit key.
